St. Andrews University
In the summer of 2020, Rev. Cynthia Purvis joined the St. Andrews community. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Education/Youth Ministry, she has over ten years of experience developing programs and strategies for youth and young adults to engage in worship, Bible study, and missional service. Ordained in 2012 by the Santa Barbara Presbytery, Cynthia previously served as the Associate Pastor of Youth and Young Adults at StoneBridge Community Church in Simi Valley, California. With a BA in English from Westmont College, she wishes she had enough time to read all the books on her reading list.
At St. Andrew’s University, our chaplain office exists to provide spiritual guidance and support to students. Our goal is to help students become resilient disciples of Christ. To build resilience we focus on three key areas of development: Identity, Belonging and Service. Students are encouraged to live out their faith and become the people God has called them to be in a hurting and broken world.
Every other week throughout the semester, we meet for Bible study, games, and prayer. At the beginning of each semester students are encouraged to join a dorm group for further Bible Study and discussion.
Starting Fall 2021, the Faith and Life Fellowship Program, will offer students a chance to dive deeper into impacting their community through a faith perspective. For more information about becoming a Fellow, contact Pastor Cynthia.
